Rocket Man

The most recent acquisition of James Harden by the Houston Rockets is  all the rage right now in that part of Texas. Maybe these will add to that.

Riding the Ponies

The Mavs have been a curious franchise as far as identity is concerned, I went simple to solve this problem. In the meantime, the first handful of NBA games are only a few hours away. The Indiana Pacers open up in Toronto tomorrow but it will give me something to think about in the absence of the NHL (again).

Anyway, this division will continue tomorrow and I'm expecting the team to be the Rockets - who happen to be celebrating their 40th season.

Spurring an Idea

Another difficult set to work with not because of color, but associated logos and word marks. No matter I managed with San Antonio as we begin the Western Conference with it's Southwestern Division.

That's it, I'm out more the rest of the week as we deal with the repercussions of the hurricane.

Working the Center Booth

Springfield College Hockey, et al

Wow! It was a very entertaining 60 minutes of hockey. Sorry for making the NHL  fans' mouths water for entertaining hockey. Stats except goalie stats and sitting game DQ's are below. Game started at 5:15 and ended at 7:16 for a total time of 2:01. My co-practicum student, Justin Spencer-Linzie kept stats with my help. I was the scoreboard operator and PA guy, but the arena microphone wasn't present since it belongs to the ice skating director. SC beat U-Mass Lowell 5-4.

Most of the official compiled stats.
Now let's get to the exciting stuff - the jerseys! Remember, some weeks back I posted about the old jerseys for sale, which were sold at the game today. The new home whites made their debut this evening.

A Weird Thought

A pair of employees on my campus will be rooting against each other as their teams play each other in a few weeks. The Dallas fan asked me to make a picture of Troy Polamalu in a Cowboy's jersey to have ready for the Pittsburgh Steelers fan. This is what I came up with:

No matter, this will keep me busy until tomorrow's post.

Today, I present two concepts due to the glitch from Monday.

As far as his NBA career is concerned, Dr. J spent his entire career in Philadelphia with the Sixers, well after their move from their days as the Syracuse Nationals. Meanwhile Bill Russell, the only greatest Boston Celtic ahead of Larry Bird is our honorary representative with the Philadelphia Eagle-ized alternate.

Wow, what a productive post! Just like that, we move onto the Western Conference next week, I don't know who the starters are for the next week of the three so check us out Monday. Until then, we will be doing interesting things this weekend.

Oh, Toronto!

Professional sports have been very kind to Toronto. They have sports in three of the four of the major professional sports leagues. The typically struggling Maple Leafs of the NHL, the mediocre Blue Jays of the MLB, and in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills are allowed to play one home game a year plus one pre-season game every other year through special agreement. But how about the NBA? The Raptors must be the most over looked of the three teams, not to mention CFL football with the Argo, and dare I mention Toronto FC of the MLS. What about perennial NLL powerhouse the Toronto Rock. No matter, the Raptors are front and center today.

Tomorrow will feature the final two as a result of Monday's internet connection mishap.

New York News!

If you haven't heard, the New York Islanders are relocating to be roommates at the newly constructed Barclays Center.  Their roommates are our topic of conversation, as the Brooklyn Nets have given me a challenge. I decided to add a grey jersey even though they are only the black and white. What would otherwise be a bland set in a difficult-to-design one, I added a striping scheme to the alternate to give it some form of life.

I am too much reminded of the Spurs with this concept. Oh well, this will have to do.

Getting Knicked

The Knicks logo progression never struck a chord with me except for their seldom used "subway token" logo currently in use. I also noted their lack of an orange jersey and use of the color in general. Their idea of shading is as hideous as can be in addition. I made this jersey set much simpler. The big thing is that the font is not arched for the name on the back.

Tomorrow the ever difficult Nets of Brooklyn despite improvement. Just black, white, and silver; what'll they think of next?!

A Drab Day

I have no access to my favorite logo server - oh no! It looks like I have to double up one of the posts this week. In the mean time, I am going to recap the last seven days of my sports week. The Macedonian men's national soccer team defeated Serbia at home 1-0 in World Cup European Qualification. This is the first time they have ever beaten Serbia in all competitions. The stadium looks great after the most recent renovations. Also, the WNBA season has officially come to a close as last night, my favorite Indiana Fever won the fourth and final game in the best-of-five championship series over the former defending champions Minnesota Lynx. This is the first championship in team history as well as the first championship since the Indiana Pacers' 1973 American Basketball Association title.

That's a wrap, I'll be back tomorrow.

SCTV3 vs Alumni Hall

Busy in Springfield

So I'm once again in charge of creating a designer look for my residence hall's apparel this year. I have also been asked to create aq logo for the TV station I am a part of on campus. Sneak peaks are available below.

That should keep everyone busy trying to guess these teasers. Back to the drawing board for additional options!

A Wild Hockey State of Mind

HJC ran a contest this past week in an effort to give the NHL's Minnesota Wild a re-branded look, I took a civil liberty of combining all eras in the team's short twelve year history. In fact, I played around with the logos a bit.

Well, it's a very busy Saturday for me - I'll be back tomorrow!

The Many Birds of the Bird City

Atlanta's sports teams in the recent past have been known for their birds - the MLB's Braves could qualify with a Blackhawk reference but does not, the NFL's Falcons and the NHL's former Thrashers. But this design is for the other birds, the NBA's Hawks.

Orlando (a Team in Progress)

Buffalo Nickel Graphics (right-click me, then click "open in new tab"!)

In it's shorter 23 season history just coming out of it's infancy and teen stages into the legal stage of life, Orlando has had subtle changes during each of its re-branding eras. With their current look, I say it's the best yet, but the NBA messed up their look again. While their current sets aren't horrible, some changes do need to be changed. As my set isn't the perfect or best solution, I do feel it is an upgrade.

From Charlotte to . . . Charlotte

How 'bout them Charlotte Hornets I mean Bobcats. If only that were actually the case. George Shinn's reputation slowly eroded before the move to New Orleans for the Hornets and subsequently caused decline in attendance despite the hoopla of a basketball frenzy city. At the same time, the lack of luxury suites at the Coliseum was in dis-accord with Shinn. The result was Charlottes move to NOLA following the 2001-02 season.

In the mean time, the NBA promised Charlotte a new team in time for the 2004-05 season. Among bids for ownership included Larry Brid surfaced, but Robert L.Johnson of BET and his ownership group including the rapper Nelly became the first African-American owned franchise in the professional American sports leagues.

The Michael Jordan era only began in the summer of 2010 and so far he isn't doing very hot. In fact, his team finished with the NBA's worst record this past season . . . But that's impossible when we only associate greatness with Michael Jordan, right? No Matter, maybe the new look they unveiled will put the past behind them. This was done to kind of help them out, but they already put the new equip out.
